Wilde & Transmedia Storytelling on Kitely - Discussion

"Transmedia storytelling represents a process where integral elements of a fiction get dispersed systematically across multiple delivery channels for the purpose of creating a unified and coordinated entertainment experience. Ideally, each medium makes its own unique contribution to the unfolding of the story."

Henry Jenkins (2007) first introduced the term in 2003 in the MIT Technology Review magazine.

What is Transmedia Storytelling? What tools can promote it for (Language) Education in Virtual Worlds?

For the purposes of integrating language skills, the simulation “Wilde and Transmedia Storytelling for 21st century Competencies” was built with learners involved in immersion through affordances in Virtual Worlds.

Here (Links to an external site.) is a document which can answer a lot of your questions on Transmedia Storytelling, and which outlines how I have been using this innovative and creative technique to promote Learner competencies and language acquisition on Kitely.

Visit ELT Treasure Island to experience our Project called "Wilde & Transmedia storytelling for 21st century Competencies".

Feel free to start your discussion below on your experience with Transmedia Storytelling so far.

Transmedia Play encourages learning in different ways: 1) promotes new approaches to reading, as children must learn to read both written and multimedia texts (across multiple media) and deeply exploring the details of the narrative; 2) encourages joint media engagement; 3) can support constructivist learning goals - it involves exploration, experimentation, and remix, with emphasis on the active role of the learner in creating knowledge by working to make connections among information in a specific context (Alper and Herr-Stephenson), here through different Virtual World simulations. Alper and Herr-Stephenson define Transmedia Play "as a way of thinking about children’s experimentation with, expression through, and participation in media".
