Abstract:

During the 5-week EVO session ‘Immersive Instructional Design’, language teaching professionals learn to apply some of the principles of Instructional Design in the Metaverse. Together, we actively engage in the design of language learning materials and tasks, creating objects, simulations, games, scenarios and more in FrameVR, Spatial.io, OpenSim and Second Life.

Target audience

This session is aimed at experienced language educators, language course designers, and webheads with intermediate expertise in using technology for teaching.  Those without experience in entering and navigating virtual worlds will be able to observe our live sessions in Zoom and we provide help with setting up and orientation for new ones.

Session objectives:

By the end of this session:

  • We will have:

- informed you about basic principles of Immersive Instructional Design

- explored and played with Spatial.io, FrameVR.io, OpenSim, Second Life

  • Together we will have:

- selected an object and demonstrate its construction on the sandbox

- elicited participant creativity/construction

  • You will have:

- identified and implemented the basic principles in Immersive Instructional Design

- reflected on the 3D environments and process

- used curation tools to showcase your creation(s) and discoveries with other participants
